Told by Norma Norn... My friend,Fort Langley artist Judy Nygren, held a wedding ceremony at her home for her daughter-in-law, Tricia Ryan.
What made that special day even more remarkable was that, just before her wedding day, Tricia was diagnosed with breast cancer.
After the wedding ceremony, Tricia's wedding gown, along with her little flower girl's dress, both remained at Judy's home.
In the days following, Judy felt drawn to paint the two dresses as they hung side-by-side. Judy titled her painting, "When
I Grow Up... there will be no more breast cancer". When Sharon first saw the print Judy had given me of the painting, she was very moved by the touching
image of the two dresses. She was overcome with emotion at the painting's inspirational title and the poignant story
behind it's creation - Sharon had been living with breast cancer herself for several years at that point. Always a lover of
sending (and receiving) pretty cards, Sharon immediately commented on what a beautiful card the print could make - maybe a
card that one day would raise money for breast cancer research. My daughter Lindsay, Judy and myself were able to produce a prototype of the card so Sharon could
see her idea realized. She passed away a week later, in the summer of 2005. Tricia, who was so delighted with the project-to-be, and who gave us an enthusiastic
"thumbs-up", passed away in early 2007.
